Creating Playful Assets for a Collaborative Digital Art Community

Spark Creative Play was an interactive creative platform centered around the online community of popular YouTube artist and creator Moriah Elizabeth. Officially launched in late 2022, the platform encouraged users to create and customize digital artwork using themed assets, backgrounds, and creative tools inspired by characters, trends, and concepts developed throughout Moriah’s content ecosystem.

Working as a freelance designer for the platform, I contributed a variety of visual assets focused primarily on illustrated backgrounds, icons, and supporting graphics designed for users to incorporate into their own creative projects within the platform.

Design Direction

The platform’s visual language centered around bright, playful, and highly expressive design inspired by Moriah Elizabeth’s recognizable creative style and online community culture. My work required ongoing research into newly introduced characters, recurring visual motifs, and community terminology featured throughout her YouTube content in order to maintain stylistic consistency across assets.

One recurring term used throughout the platform was “drainting,” a playful portmanteau combining drawing and painting originally coined by Moriah Elizabeth and widely recognized within her creative community.

The visual assets created for the platform were designed to:

  • encourage creativity and experimentation

  • support user customization

  • maintain visual consistency with the brand

  • feel approachable, colorful, and expressive

  • enhance the interactive user experience

Reflection

This project provided experience designing within an established online creator ecosystem while adapting assets to fit a highly recognizable visual identity and engaged community audience. It also strengthened my ability to create scalable digital assets, maintain stylistic consistency, and design for interactive, user-driven creative experiences.
